Twenty-two students from ASU Technical Center in Marked Tree competed in the State SkillsUSA competition in Hot Springs April 15 and 16. SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry representatives working together to ensure America has a skilled work force.
SkillsUSA is a national organization serving teachers and high school and college students who are preparing for careers in technical, skilled and service occupations. SkillsUSA programs include local, state and national competitions in which students demonstrate occupational and leadership skills.
At the state level, 1,798 students representing 127 schools competed in 91 occupational and leadership skill areas. First place winners are eligible to compete on the national level at Kansas City in June.
The following individuals from the Technical Center placed at the state level: Mike Armstrong of Marked Tree -- first place in residential wiring, Nelson Diaz of Trumann -- second place in residential wiring, Jenni Russell of Brookland -- first place in cosmetology, Beth Guy of Trumann -- second placed in cosmetology, Amber Nelson of Lake City-- third place in cosmetology, Josh Bennett -- first place in technical computer applications, Justin Muse of Marked Tree -- first place in internetworking, Heith Tarver of Harrisburg -- second place in internetworking, Mike Dozier of Osceola -- third place in internetworking, Charlie Parker of Trumann-- first place in computer maintenance, and Chris Paxson of Marked Tree -- third place in electronics technology.
