Farmers market meeting set for May 12

Wednesday, May 7, 2008
There will be a meeting for everyone in the surrounding cities interested in participating in the Tyronza Farmers Market at 7 p.m. May 12 at Tyronza City Hall. The purpose of the meeting is to receive the rules for the market and to discuss opening day. Craig Allen will also be there to inform the growers of the free services provided by the Poinsett County Cooperative Extension Service.

The opening date for the Farmers Market has been changed to June 12. t was originally set for May 15 but had to be set back because of the late planting of gardens due to the weather. The Market will be open every Thursday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. It will be located at the Memorial Park beside the old Tyronza Grocery in Tyronza. With the price of gas constantly rising, it is hoped that the Farmers Market can be of service by saving the shoppers money by letting them shop locally and helping the growers by letting them sell their excess produce.

Anyone wishing to rent a booth should contact Linda Hinton at the Southern Tenant Farmers Museum at 487-2909. Rent is $5. For now, the Market is available to sell all forms of fruits, vegetables, flowers, baked goods and hot foods like BBQ, hamburgers and hotdogs. No crafts will be sold for now.

The music corner will be available for any musical artist that would like to entertain the public while they are shopping. Tips can be accepted. Those interested in reserving a time on music corner should call the Southern Tenants Farmers Museum.
